Joyce Daw

Joyce Emma Humphries Daw, 77, of Hixson, went to heaven on Saturday, May 28, 2011, after losing her battle to a brief illness.Joyce was born in Great Falls, S.C., on Dec. 27, 1932. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Emma Hammond; her first husband, Billy D.Humphries; four brothers, a sister, and a grandson.She graduated in 1953 from Great Falls High School and enjoyed reuniting with her classmates on a yearly basis. Joyce spent much of her life as a military wife and homemaker. She loved to read, sew, travel, and cook. Her grandchildren will dearly miss her homemade banana pudding.Survivors include her loving husband of nine years, Ted Daw; her daughter, Sheree Smith (Randall); her son, David Humphries, both of Columbia, S.C.; step-son, Dennis K. Daw; step-daughters, Denise Estep (Dennis), and Dawn Barnes (Johnny), of Chattanooga; her surviving grandchildren are: Dawn Marie Van Krieken, Randall Smith Jr., Breeanna Humphries, Kris Daw, Kaitlyn Estep, Katherine Estep, Kara Daw, Morgan Estep, Kyle Barnes, Dylan Daw, and Nathan Barnes; great-grandchildren are: Trent Van Krieken and Kyle, Ashley, and Tyler Smith.Special thanks to the pastoral staff at Brainerd Hills Baptist Church and to the ICU nurses at Kindred Hospital.Mrs. Daw has been taken to Greenlawn Funeral Home on Leesburg Road in Columbia, S.C., for Services to be held noon Friday in the chapel with the Rev. Curtis Cameron officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
