Jim Orten

James "Jim" Howard Orten, 88, of Red Bank, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011.Born in Decatur, Ala., to the late William and Clara McAbee Webb Orten. He served our country during World War II in the U.S. Army serving in the Philippines. Jim was a former employee with DuPont, a life insurance agent with Metropolitan Life and retired from Lincoln National Life. He was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church. Jim was a member of the Red Bank Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star Dorcus Chapter.He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Emma Jane Nelms Orten; son-in-law, Edward L. Carroll; and a brother, Leonard E. Webb Jr.Jim is survived by his daughters, Marsha Ann Orten and Cindy Orten Carroll; grandchildren, Brad Carroll, Becky Carroll and Bonnie (Corey) Nelson; great-grandchildren, Hannah Carroll and Kodiak Henry; several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. today at the North Chapel.A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Orten will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at the North Chapel with the Rev. Betsy Kammerdiener officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park. Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
