Bert Ensley

Bert Wayman Ensley, 83, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord Friday, April 27, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Following his graduation from Bradley Central High School, Mr. Ensley served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed on Okinawa for two years as the radio repairman. After his discharge he was employed as a salesman with J&P Supply Company. He was a member of Abbas House of Central Baptist Church of Hixson and the Shifflet/Lanter Sunday School Class. He was ordained as a deacon many years ago at Calvary Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Sidney and Janie Ensley and was also preceded in death by four sisters, Beulah Waters, Hazel Ensley, Bonnie Robertson and Frances Ensley; three brothers, O.W., Winfred and Edward Ensley. Bert leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Gill Ensley; daughter, Linda (Glenn) Miller; son Bryan (Melinda) Ensley all, of Hixson; grandsons, Geoffrey and Ryan Miller both, of Hixson; granddaughters, Megan (Lochlin) Samples, Atlanta, Ga. and Katie Ensley, Hixson; sister, Judy Epperson, Chattanooga; two brothers, Jack (Reba) Ensley, Cleveland, Tenn. and Billy (Lois) Ensley, Elyria, OH; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Collin Cherry, Dr. Darrell Johnson and their staff, Memorial Home Health and Hospice of Chattanooga. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Herbert Conley and Bryan Ensley officiating. Interment will be in Old McDonald Cemetery. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. His Sunday School Class and other nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today and from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
