Ernest Green

eDUNLAP Ernest Franklin Greene, 82, passed away Friday, April 27, 2012. Mr. Greene was born August 18, 1929 in Augusta, Ga. to Austin and Katrina Greene. He attended school in Harlem, Ga. and joined the U.S Army. After serving our country in the Korean War, he began a successful, lifelong career in pest control, serving as a charter founding member of the Chattanooga Area Pest Control Association and founding and operating Colonial Exterminating Company in Dunlap, TN where he made his home since 1980. A member of Dunlap United Methodist Church, Mr. Greene served on its administrative board for several years, as Chairman of the Board of the Sequatchie County Senior Citizens Center from 1997 until 2003, and as an active member of the Lions and Gideons clubs, among others. Mr. Greene was a valued and well-loved contributor to the entire Sequatchie County community. His family and colleagues will always remember him as a true Southern gentleman who loved life and his family with complete devotion and told the best stories-always with a keen sense of humor. He was an accomplished cook and gardener and enjoyed cruising the world and traveling across the country with his wife Maggie. Mr. Greene had a heart for nature and enjoyed life with his wife on their 96-acre Greene Valley Farm in Sequatchie Valley. He never let adversity stop him, meeting a11 life's challenges with a positive attitude and teaching his children and grandchildren to do the same. Mr. Greene was a man who can never be replaced but always fondly remembered. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Wesley Greene and James Allan Greene. He is survived by his wife, Maggie (Harwell) Greene, of Dunlap; sister, Rubye Wyatt of Augusta, Ga.; children Karen Greene, Jeffrey Greene, Philip Greene, Steven Swink, Thomas Swink, Sr., Michael Swink and Katherine Swink; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Dunlap United Methodist Church are much appreciated in memory of Ernie Greenes wonderful life. A service is scheduled for today, April 30, at 1 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Greene's memory may be made to Dunlap United Methodist Church.
