Austin Griffith

Austin "Mac" Griffith went Home to be with the Lord after battling cancer on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012.Mac was a resident of Chickamauga, Ga. He was a devoted son, father and grandfather. Mac in his earlier years was a well-known business man who specialized in men's clothing. He was given a life saving award when he performed C.P.R. on a little girl who had drowned. He also worked as a volunteer fireman and at one time worked for the state of Georgia Corrections. Mac was known for his outgoing personality and someone who never met a stranger. He would go out of his way to speak and make people feel welcome. He last volunteered at Shapiro's Deli in Chattanooga where he assisted in food deliveries. Mac had a passion for cooking and enjoyed inventing his own recipes. Mac was a member of the East Ridge American Legion post 95 where he assisted in performing military funerals for veterans who have passed. Mac was also a member of the Alhambra Shrine Temple where he was an active member of the Clown Unit where he was known as "Cookie" the clown.Mac was preceded in death by his parents, James Griffith and Genevieve Griffith Stewart.He is survived by his son, Mike (Patty) Griffith, of Chattanooga; and daughter, Candace Bond, of Chattanooga. Mac leaves behind four grandchildren, Nisa Bond, A.J. Bond, Alex Griffith and Ryan Griffith.Memorial services will be held at Soddy Church of God at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, with the Rev.
