Patricia Giles

FRANKLIN Patricia Forsyth Giles, 68, passed away at her home on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, after an extended illness.Pat was born on June 13, 1944, the daughter of the late Dr. Robert H. and Elizabeth B. Giles. She was the beloved sister of Betty (Gary) Flynn, Bob (Kim) Giles, Kathy (Steve) Case and Smitty (Marilyn) Giles. Pat was the loving aunt of 10 nieces and nephews, and the lifelong friend of Judy Carroll and Lynelle Erickson.Pat attended Notre Dame Elementary and Notre Dame High School before attending the University of Tennessee. She transferred to the University of Virginia in her senior year of college to complete her studies for a nursing degree. Following her graduation from the University of Virginia, Pat was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army where she used her nursing skills to support the military personnel in Vietnam. She was later promoted to the rank of captain. Upon her return to the United States and her resignation from the Army, she worked in various places including the Central Valley in California, Denver, and North Carolina. Pat earned her M.A. in Cardiac Rehabilitation at the University of North Carolina, and then taught at the nursing school at the University of Wisconsin. She entered Case Western Law School in Ohio, and upon graduation she practiced law in Cleveland, Ohio.A celebration of Pats life will be held at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul in Chattanooga at noon Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, with Monsignor George E. Schmidt Jr. officiating. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held at the church from 11 a.m. to noon.Inurnment at Chattanooga National Cemetery will follow the service.In lieu of flowers, the family requests your donations be sent to the National Stroke Association.Online condolences at www.rosemortuary.com.Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
