Nancye Smith

Nancye Guyton Smith, 72, of Chattanooga (formerly of South Pittsburg), passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband Ben Smith, her three children and friends on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at 6:55 p.m. EST.She was widely loved and admired for her gracious manner, kindness and extraordinary generosity. She leaves behind an exceptional legacy of thoughtfulness and devotion to her three children and mother. Her natural hospitality brightened the days of her many friends. She was a lady in its truest sense, elegant yet natural. She will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her.Nancye was born March 7, 1940 in Jasper, Tenn., where she later attended and graduated from South Pittsburg High School. During her children's school years, she was very active in all school functions and served as PTA President and room mother.Nancye was a member of the Ashland Terrace Christian Church in Hixson. She was active in the ladies Auxiliary, Helping Hands, Alhambra Shrine and a member of Asebi Court #36 of Alhambra Shrine. She was also a member of the Lookout Valley Order of the Eastern Star in Tiftonia. She was devoted to her Children and did not work until they were in high school. She was then employed by W. R. Grace in South Pittsburg and later Chattanooga for 27 years, retiring in 1999.She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Guyton, of South Pittsburg.Survivors include her husband, Ben Smith; three children, Donna Gonce (Tommy) Lawson, Mike Gonce, Deena Gonce (Jere) Brown; four stepsons, Terry, Gary, Curtis and Kevin Smith; three grandchildren, Kyle (Cheryl) Lawson, Tiffany and Jake Brown; and mother, Mrs. Ora Mae Guyton.Visitation is 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012 at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace.Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. EDT at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace with Pastor Brad McDowell officiating.Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.Visit www.lanefh.com to share condolences.Those wishing to send memorial contributions may send them to Alhambra Shrine Transportation Fund, 1000 Alhambra Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37321.
