Dr. Al Walton Gothard, 78, a well respected physician, died at his home Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012.Al graduated with a B.S. and M.D. degree from the University of NE. He interned for Mountain View General Hospital, Tacoma, Wash. His residency was internal medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich. He was board certified in Internal medicine and a member of the American College of Physicians. He chaired the Advisory Group for BCBST and was Chief of Medicine at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. Al was a member of the Good Shepherd Church on Lookout Mountain and was a Senior Warden at St. Alban's Church in Chiefland, Fla.He was preceded in death by his father Floyd Alfonso Walton; his mother and adopted father Maclellan and Harriet Gothard; and his loving wife Elizabeth Downs Gothard.He is survived by his daughters Liza (Kenneth) Hailey, Laura (Vancourt) Williams, and Judy (Wade) Moore; and a son Sandy (Sharon) Gothard; Grandchildren, Elliott and Elizabeth Hailey, Sarah, Katie and Hattie Yarnell, Katy, Xander and Windsor Gothard and Walton and Hunter Moore; sister Gay (Wendell) Burns; and nephews Ned (Erin) and Mac (Renee) Newell.Funeral services will held today, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepard, Lookout Mountain, TN. Visitation preceding at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Lung Association or your favorite charity.Arrangements made by Wann Funeral Home.
