Jack Huckabee

Jack C. Huckabee, 90, of Chattanooga, our dear, sweet father, joined Jesus and his loved ones in Heaven on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012.His last months were spent at Creekside on Shallowford where he made many friends. He grew up in Apison and joined the U.S. Army at age 19 and served in World War II. He has a video of his war experiences in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. and was the recipient of five Bronze Stars for being in five major battles. Following his retirement as an engineer with T.V.A., he and his wife, Hazel, were T.V.A. volunteers with Bicentennial Volunteer Incorporated and had more than 8,000 hours invested. They won many awards and met many interesting people. He was a member of Morris Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed the singing, preaching, hand shakes and especially the hugs. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hazel in May, 2012; brothers, Edward and Phil Huckabee; sisters, Margaret Land and Bertha Harbuck; and grandson, Jamie Alan Suits.Survivors include his children, Jack Stanley Huckabee, Barbara (Charles) Fryar, Shelia (Kenny) Davis, Deborah (Steve) Blackburn; step-daughter, Gwen Caldwell; step-granddaughter, Laura (Neal) Hamilton; sister, Freida (Leon) Bagby; and loved as a daughter, Glenda Jenkins; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 1 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Dr. Bill Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga for the wonderful care they gave our dad, especially Sheila, his nurse, Dawn, and caregivers, Cindy and Brenda.
