Edward Gates

Edward "Soul Picture Man" Gates, 79, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, in a local nursing home.He was a Korean War Veteran and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Armistice Lodge #440 and a 40-year member of the ELKS Services James E. Kelley #118 Council.Preceded in death by wife, Janie Lue Gates; mother, Florine Bell; sisters, Patricia Williams and Idella Davis; brother, Gilray Gates.Survivors include his sisters, Vashti McDonald, Mae Lizzie (Calvin) Woods, Sandra (Franklin) Rice; brothers, Cleveland (Rena) Bell, Rev. Charlie Bell, Leroy (Sharon) Bell, and John Bell, all of Chattanooga, Leon (Barbara) Bell, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; brother-in-law, James Collier; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.Special thanks to the staff of The Health Center at Standifer.Visitation is today from 6-7 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service is Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Brother Jimmy Ingram officiating.Burial: Chattanooga National Cemetery.
