Vernon Cooper

Vernon D. Cooper, 75, of Rossville passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012 at a local hospital.He and his family transferred to Savannah, Ga., and Tampa, Fla., but lived most of their lives in the Chattanooga and Rossville area. He served in the National Guard for 4 years and at one point built a custom car engine that was featured in Motor Trend Magazine. In the late 80's he started a contracting business with his best friend, William Lowes of Ringgold, only recently retiring. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Betty, mother, Grace Powell Holbrook, father, William Clayton Cooper, and many older brothers and sisters.He is survived by his son, Clayton Harold Cooper, son-in-law, Donald Hackett, brother, Leonard Paul Holbrooks and his family, and in-laws including the Dunn Family, The Brodie Family and The Prater Family.Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.comMemorial services will be held privately at a later date.The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Chattanooga, 200 Central Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37403.Arrangements by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory located at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
