Doris Cole

Doris Nix Cole, 73, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012, in a local hospital.She moved to Milwaukee from Chattanooga in 1958 and was employed with the Milwaukee Minority Chamber and the city of Milwaukee Housing Authority. She was owner of Sandies Classic Catering where she catered for large weddings, organizations, political events and musical artists. She was a charter member of the Royal Duchess Social Club. She matriculated at the University of Wisconsin as a criminal justice major and Milwaukee Area Technical College-Culinary Arts. She attended Mount Moriah Baptist Church.After 37 years Doris returned to Chattanooga in 1996 to assist her daughter. She was active with the 1956 class of Howard High School and continued catering with Chefs Underground (Neville Forsythe) and Mosss Place (Darnell Moss). Her love for children led to her employment with the Church of Jesus Daycare, Christian Development Center and Debbies Daycare. She was a member of Phillips Temple CME Church.She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Nix Parks; father, Garland Nix; daughter Valeriea "Peaches" Sanford Weber; sister, Hilda Flanders; and brother, William Morrow.Doris is survived by her daughter, Dr. Sharon Cannon; son, Shannon Sanford; grandchildren, Shae Shalaye Sanford, Julian Sanders, Kelly (Mario) Clements, Shannon Sanford Jr.; great-grandchildren, Shanise, Shon, Sheldon, Lhadijah, Demetria, Nautica, Nyah Khiya, Julian, Jamario and Shehari; great-great-grandchild, Malaya; brother, Jeff Moss; Sisters, Pattie Johnson, Patricia (Robert) Bailey; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, God children; and special friend, Jeanette Donald.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, July 13, 2012 in the funeral home chapel.Interment: Forest Hills Cemetery.Arrangements by John P.
