Dub Thompson

William A. "Dub" Thompson, 84, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 28, 2012.He was born Jan. 14, 1928 in Athens, Tenn., to the late William L. and Agartha Rowland Thompson.He was a deacon at Ridgedale Baptist Church and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. He was retired from Lovemans Department Store after 40 years of service. He was the 1956 Kiwanis "Man of the Year" in East Ridge. Mr. Thompson was a former member of the Exchange Club and the Chattanooga Board of Realtors and the Georgia Board of Realtors.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Jean Newman Thompson.Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Elizabeth L. Thompson; children, Randy Thompson, of Franklin, Tenn., Karen (Hank) McMahon, of Chattanooga; and Connie (Jack) Allen, of Athens, Tenn.; grandchildren, Betsy Allen, of Central City, Ky., Brennan McMahon of Washington, D.C., and Kane McMahon and Ty McMahon, of Chattanooga; and sister, Jackie (Bob) Byrum, of Athens.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the East Brainerd Chapel with Dr. Bill Owens officiating.Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.Honorary pallbearers will be the Friendship Sunday School Class of Ridgedale Baptist Church.The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to Ridgedale Baptist Church Building Fund, 1831 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421 or to Northside Presbyterian Church, 923 Mississippi Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37405.The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Memorial Hospitals Critical Care Unit.
