Susan DickensCHAPIN, S.C. Susan Neal Dickens departed her earthly home in Chapin to her heavenly home on Tuesday, June 19, 2012.Susan was born Aug. 26, 1955 in Asheville, N.C. and most recently lived in Signal Mountain and Chapin. She was a member of Chapin United Methodist Church.Susan attended Anderson College where she was a member of the national basketball championships team there. She later played basketball and graduated from Clemson University. She was a great Tiger supporter. She worked at Rikard Nursing Home in Lexington, S.C., Alexian Village in Signal Mountain and enjoyed telling friends and family that she was retired. She volunteered at Good Works in Chapin S.C.Susans family were all so very fortunate to be loved and cared for by such a remarkable and generous wife and mother, and we will miss her presence and laughter very much. Her love was so strong and complete that each of us felt the strength and passion of her selfless affection for us. Family members include husband, Randy Dickens; daughters, Claire (Andy) Tomberlin and Katie Dickens; and sons, Beau (Katie) Reynolds and Cannon Dickens; granddaughter, Bryce Lee Tomberlin; and brother, Jamie (Suzanne) Neal. Susan joins her mother, Maxine Clyde Neal and father, James Ellerbe Neal.Susans smile and strong faith touched many during her time in this place, and she was blessed to have many friendships, especially at the churches and communities she and her family attended and lived through the years: Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church in Columbia SC, Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church in Signal Mountain and Chapin United Methodist Church in Chapin.The family would like to thank the friends from these churches and the communities of each for their support, love and prayers during times of good health and sickness. We also want to thank Kathy and all of the staff at South Carolina Oncology Associates for their care and treatment during the last 18 months.Visitation with the family will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012, and services of the resurrection will be at 3 p.m. at Chapin United Methodist Church, 415 Lexington Ave., Chapin, S.C.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to Good Works (118 St. Peters Church Road, Chapin, SC 29036).In closing, we want to share one of Susans favorite scriptures in the hopes that you too will find strength in the Word: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11.
