Jimmy Cordell

James "Jimmy" Cordell, 70, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012 at his home in Chattanooga. Jimmy was born on July 28, 1941 in Decatur, Tenn., to Smith and Geneva Cordell. A Chattanooga resident for the past 45 years, Jimmy retired from TVA where he worked in the Grounds Maintenance department.He was a long standing member of Lupton Drive Baptist Church, where much of his family attends. He loved fishing, hunting, his family, but most of all loved watching his grandchildren play sports.Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Smith and Geneva Cordell; and a sister, Charlotte Marshall. Survivors include his wife of almost 52 years, Virginia; his daughter, Donna (Gene) Wade and his son, Chad (Karen) Cordell; grandchildren, Bret Wade, Mallory Wade, Grant Cordell, Emma Cordell; sisters, Mary Sue Thomas and Sharon Williams; and a brother, Paul Cordell.Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Randy Bell and Rev. Roger DeHart officiating.Entombment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Scotty Cordell, Chuck Thomas, Tony Cordell, Mitch Hardin, Lamar Hardin and John Hardin serving as pallbearers.The family will receive friends for visitation from 4-8 p.m. today, June 30, and on Sunday, July 1, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
