James Farrar

James Clay Farrar, 80, of Chattanooga, died Monday May 28, 2012, at St. Barnabas.He was preceded in death by his parents, Waymon and Mildred Farrar.Jim was born in Chattanooga, attended the McCallie School, Davidson College and graduated from the University of Chattanooga. While at the University of Chattanooga, he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and president of his junior and senior classes. After graduating, he served as second lieutenant in the United States Army in Germany.He was the general manager of the Town and Country Restaurant for over 30 years. During that time, he served as president of the Chattanooga and Tennessee Restaurant Associations and was Restaurateur of the Year for Tennessee. He also served as president of the Chattanooga Restaurant Supply Corporation. He was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian church where he served as a deacon.Jim is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Connie; sons, James C. (Ione) Farrar Jr. and Robert C. Farrar; daughters, Betsy Nichols and Carol (Brett) Norton; four grandchildren, Andrew Farrar, Katie Farrar, Ben Norton and Jack Norton; and his sister, Sue Farrar.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the McCallie School, Habitat for Humanity, the Chattanooga Community Kitchen or Rivermont Presbyterian Church.The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today, May 31, at Rivermont Presbyterian Church.Celebration of Jims Life will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at Rivermont Presbyterian Church with Mrs. Diane W.
