Joseph Byron "Joe" Cox, 73, of Hixson, retired Captain of the Chattanooga Fire Department, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012. Joe loved firefighting and driving big-rigs. In his retirement, he travelled all over the United States and parts of Europe in support of Bea's art teaching career.He was preceded in death by his father, Byron Joseph Cox; mother, Ruth Cox Howard; step-father, Arnold A. Howard; and daughter, Cynthia Cox Howard.Survivors include his wife, Barbara "Bea" Cox; daughters: Debra (Willie) Lively, Cathie (Randy) Durham and Shannon (Keith) Mosley; son, Sean (Jami) Smith; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace with Father Charlie Burton officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
