Billy Smith

KNOXVILLEBilly Moore Smith, 83, passed away in the Ben Atchley State Veterans Home in Knoxville, on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012.Billy was a graduate of Haywood High School, then entered into the Army where he served in the Korean War, was wounded twice and received two Purple Hearts. He was an incredibly devoted husband, father and grandfather and he faithfully served all of his family that he loved so much. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Billie Moore Smith and Becky Ross Smith; his wife, Mildred Campster Smith; one brother, Sam Smith; and a sister, Dorothy Huffman. He is survived by three sons: Dr. Bill Moore Smith (Christine) Rising Fawn, Ga., Steve Smith (Tammie), Chattanooga, and Bates Smith (Pam), Knoxville; one brother, Johnny Smith, Milan, Tenn.; three sisters, Peggy Hooper and Becky Morris, both of Brownsville, Tenn., and Nancy Fair, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; 11 grandchildren, Kyle Smith, Kurt Smith, Kip Smith, Karter Smith, Kelly Smith, Kadie Ann Smith, Brian Sargent, Sarah Evans, Andrew Smith, Ben Smith and Molly Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Bennet Smith, Mack Smith, Carter Evans, Emma Sargent and Bella Sargent.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, West Tennessee Office, 326 Ellsworth St., Memphis, TN 38111.Memorial Funeral Services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, in the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, Tenn.A private family Graveside Service was held prior to the Memorial Service.
