Helen Cox Harris, 93, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012.She retired from the Ohio Teachers School System in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Hamilton County School System in Chattanooga. She received a masters degree in education from the University of Kentucky. She was a member of Orchard Knob M.B. Church.She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph L. Cox Jr. and John E. Harris Sr.; daughter, Gloria C. Cox; sons, James L. Harris and William M. Harris Sr.Survivors include her sons, Landon (Pamela) S. Cox, Chicago, Ill, Joseph L. (Barbara) Cox III, College Corners, Ohio, and John E. (Alice) Harris Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio; granddaughter, Deborah (Eddie) Upshaw, Chickamauga, Ga.; niece, Deborah Perkins, Atlanta; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many friends.A special thank you is extended to Mary Careathers, who is loved by the family and who was like a granddaughter to Ms. Helen. The family also extends thanks to the caretakers of Hospice of Chattanooga.The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, in the funeral home chapel, Minister William M. Harris II officiating.Interment: Garmany Cemetery, Kensington, Ga.The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
