John Ray

John Ray, 72, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at his residence.Mr. Ray graduated from City High School in 1958 and then he attended the University of Chattanooga. He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Ray retired from Tennessee American Water Co. He was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.Preceded in death by parents, Everett and Louise Ray.Survived by loving wife of 48 years, Ruth Ann Ray, of East Ridge; daughter, Lisa (Scott) Greer, of Brentwood, Tenn.; son, John Ray II, of Nashville; three grandchildren, Haylee Greer, Raygan Greer and Waggoner Greer; brother, Evan (Virginia) Ray, of Etowah, Tenn.; sister, Jean (Rex) Kirkland, of Birmingham, Ala.; several nieces and nephews.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Aaron Johnson and John Croyle officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the 30.06 Hunt Club.The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2012, and from noon until 1 p.m. on Thursday from at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to Big Oak Ranch, P.O.
