Harriett James

Harriett Fields James, 74, of Burke, Va., passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013.Harriett was born and raised in Chattanooga where she was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church. She attended Chattanooga City High School, and graduated from the University of Chattanooga, where she was a member of Chi Omega.As a Navy wife, Harriett lived in many locations, to include: Pensacola and Key West, Fla., Quonset Point, R.I., Virginia Beach, Va., Chattanooga, Monterey, Calif., and Burke Va. She was an elementary school teacher in Pensacola, Fla., as well as in Fairfax County, Va. Harriett had a beautiful singing voice and was an active member of the Church Choir in all cities she lived, to include: St. Pauls and St. Peters in Chattanooga, Saint Marys By the Sea, Pacific Grove. Calif., and Saint Andrews, Burke. Va.Harriett was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elsie Fields; her sister, Jean Fields; and her son, Ronald Edward James Jr.She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ronald Edward James; her children, David, Peggy and John; her sister, Judy Martin, of Signal Mountain; daughters-in law, Jane and Bonnie; and grandchildren, Nick, Sadie, Alex, Bailey, Ian, Duncan, Ethan, Justus and Leah.The funeral service will be held at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Chattanooga, at 2 p.m. Friday, April 19, with visitation at 1 p.m. at St. Pauls. The burial will be at Chattanooga Memorial Park following the service.
