Charles MasonBRIDGEPORT Charles Russell Mason, 98, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at his home.Charles was the son of the late Charles Anderson and Sarah Francis Alverson Mason born Aug. 13, 1915 in Bridgeport, Ala. He was a retired foundry iron worker. Mr. Mason was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Chattanooge Ironworkers Union and 50-year member of the Bridgeport Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star.Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Veava Lucille Helton Mason; siblings, Hugh Mason, Lillie McClain, Mary Cookston, Wilma Hartline, Frances Smith; stepbrothers, Carl and Raymond Moore: stepmother, Edna Barnes Moore Mason.Survivors include his children, Wanda Willis, of Bridgeport, James (Faye) Mason, of Hopkinsville, Ky., Charles "Buddy" (Anna) Mason, of Nashville, Hugh Nelson (Sonja) Mason, of Old Hickory, Tenn; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. CDT today at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Ala.The funeral service will be Sunday, Aug.18, at 3 p.m. CDT at the funeral home chapel.
