Hazel Hays

Hazel Cherry Hays, who worked as a purchasing department secretary for Combustion Engineering and ABB for 42 years died on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013 at her home. She was 85.She was preceded in death by her parents, James William Cherry and Lillian Day Cherry; a brother, Charles Cherry; and a sister, Annie B. Cherry.Hazel was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and a 1946 graduate of Central High School. She was a member of Professional Secretaries International and NSA. She was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga and the McAllester Bible Class, serving as their secretary-treasurer for 25 years.Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Don Callaway "Bo" Hays; son, Rob C (Sabrina) Hays; three grandsons, Stephen (Brittany) Hays, Shawn (Toni) Hays and Brian (Pepper) Hays; great-granddaughters, Ivy Hays, Ava Hays and Harper Hays; and nephews, Keith Cherry and Don Cherry.Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Rev. Lanny Johnson officiating.The family will receive friends today from 3-6 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.Memorial contributions may be made to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Chattanoga, 1505 N.
