Dorothy Kershaw

Dorothy Kershaw, 82, of Hixson, passed away Thursday, Aug. 29 2012. She was a kind and loving mother and friend who loved all of God's creation and believed in all of its potential. She was an avid nature lover and gardener. Formerly of Fort Payne Ala., Dorothy had lived in Chattanooga the past 44 years. A 1949 graduate of Ft. Payne High School and was secretary to Dr. Chitwood in Ft. Payne. She was a Baptist and retired from Hess's Department Store. She was the daughter of the late Claris and Lela Stout and was also preceded in death by her son, Joe Kershaw; and sister, Nina Jo Tate.Survivors include her husband, Albert Kershaw; three daughters, Lisa Hurtt of Knoxville, Cyndi Hurtt (J. C. Shumaker), of Hixson and April Hurtt Frye (Robert), of Harrison; two sons Johnny (Carol) Hurtt and Dan Kershaw (Marisa), of Chattanooga; grandsons, Steve Sanders, Morgan Stiles, Hadden Kershaw, Dustin Kershaw and Brennan Kershaw; granddaughters, Heather Johnson and Cami Kershaw; two great-granddaughters; sister, Bobbye Williams (Hugh Don), of Rainsville, Ala.; daughter-in-law, Julie Kershaw; multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.Memorial contributions may be made to Chattanooga Nature Center.Visitation is 1-3 p.m. today at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace.
