Frances

Frances McCroskeyFrances (Vassey) Hamlet McCroskey passed away at her Morning Pointe residence on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at the age of 92. The daughter of X Vassey and Ada Blanton Vassey, she was born in Chesney, S.C., on May 23, 1921, and was raised in Cleveland, Tenn. She was a 1939 graduate of Bradley High School. A 1943 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, she taught high school in Bradley County . While a resident of Jasper, Indiana, she and her husband William Hamlet were charter members and instrumental in the formation and growth of First Baptist Church of Jasper. After moving back to Tennessee, she once again began teaching and retired from the Chattanooga City School system after teaching Home Ec and Science at East Lake Jr. High School and Alton Park Jr. High School.She was preceded in death by husbands William Hamlet and Joe McCroskey. She was also preceded in death by brothers George, Tom and Ben Vassey; and sisters Louise Vassey Helsley and Faye Vassey Swatek. She is survived by daughters, Jane H. Bennett, of Crossville and Lori H. Green, of Chattanooga; her "favorite" granddaughter, Lindsay Green, of Chattanooga; her "favorite" grandson Andy Green (Brittany), of Fort Worth and her sister Virginia Vassey Jett, of Maryville. She is also survived by her unofficial daughter, Charlie Vassey Sedman and many nieces and nephews.She was a long time member of East Ridge Baptist Church and a current member of Spring Creek Baptist Church. She loved her church and her Lord and was truly a "godly woman".The family gratefully acknowledges the care and support given by Avalon Hospice, the loving staff/family at Morning Pointe and her incredible doctor, Siobhan Duff. The compassion, love and support received from these wonderful professionals made our journey more bearable.Services will be held Sunday Sept. 1, at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev.
