James Temple

James "Jim" "Jimmy" Herschel Temple, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013 with his daughter Nan and grandson Eric beside him.Jim was born June 4, 1925 in Sherwood, Tenn., the fifth and youngest son of William Lee and Mary Etta Pack Temple.In addition to his parents, Mr. Temple was predeceased by siblings, Herman Lee Temple, Hazel Velma Wood, Lovena Jo Black and Murrel Robert Temple.Mr. Temple was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served as a merchant marine during WWII prior to enlisting in the Navy. After WWII ended Mr. Temple met and married Hortense "Jake" Dailey on January 16, 1948. Their marriage produced two daughters, Nan and Kay.He was in the automobile business his entire life. Mr. Temple owned and operated Temple Motors on Broad Street, opening a second lot on Dayton Blvd. In the 1960s he also owned shrimp trawlers and auto transportation semi trucks. He continued to sell cars at several locations until he was unable to continue due to illness.Survivors include daughters, Nan Brooks, Kay Randall and son-in-law, Rodney Randall; grandsons, Jeffrey F. Goodner and wife Lara, Truman Wyatt Brooks and wife Katherine, Eric Dailey Brooks and wife Rebecca, Jason Randall and wife Karen; granddaughter, Tammy C. Renda and husband Col. John Renda; great-granddaughter, Jennifer Goodner and husband Jonathan Barnes, Bonnie Randall, Elizabeth Renda; great-grandsons, Jason, Aaron and Devin Randall, Sebastian Renda; great great-grandsons, Christopher Marshall Goodner, Wyatt L. Barnes, Rodney Lebron Goodner; niece, Beth Council and husband Bruce; nephew, David Temple and wife Betsy; and great-niece, Maia Council; sister-in-law, Kathryn Joyce Temple; several cousins.In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated and his ashes scattered at sea by the Navy.A celebration of his life will be held Monday, Sept. 2, from 2-4 p.m. at 3425 Alta Vista Drive, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37411, the home of his daughter, Nan.The family would like to extend a special thanks to William Fowler, Rev.
