Sarah Kitchens

Sarah Jean Kitchens, 67, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 in an Augusta, Ga., hospital. She was a 1965 graduate of Riverside High School and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Bozentown. She was a faithful member of the Women Crusaders. She retired from Orange Grove Center after 28 years of service. She was presently a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Warthan, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clifford and Lila White; father, Sam Ricks, Sr.; sister, Mary Davis; and son, Earl McCrary. Survivors include devoted husband, Marvin Kitchens; sons, Cedric Edwards, Sr., Maurice (Tabatha) Edwards, and Ernest (Leslie) Edwards all of Chattanooga; stepsons, Marty, Dennis, Amos, and Reginald Kitchens; stepdaughters, Kim Battle and Sandra Burton; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; mother, Ethel Ricks; sisters, Margie McCrary of Brooklyn, NY, Cheri Ricks, Darrell "Peaches" Adams; brothers, Ernest Herman, Ray "Donnie" Ricks and Michael Ricks all of Chattanooga; stepsisters, LaQuisha Ricks and Linda Harden, of Leighton, Ala.; aunt, Amelia Vinson; uncles, Reverend Willie (Bonnie) White and Hillard (Margaret) White; sister-in-law, Geneva Bell of Chattanooga; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. The body will lie-in-state today after 1 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service is Sunday Sept. 1, at Noon in the chapel with Pastor Nathaniel Carter, Sr. as the eulogist. Burial: Forest Hills Cemetery.
