Charles Brannon

Charles Edward Frederick Brannon I, 88, formerly of the Chattanooga area, died in a Houston hospital on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, after an extended illness. He was born in Estelle, Walker County, Ga., on Dec. 12, 1924. He graduated from Chattanooga High School and the University of Chattanooga. He served in World War II in the European Theater in the 99th Bomber Group of the Army Air Corp. Charles worked locally for the U.S. Postal Service and Tennessee Products. After moving to Houston, he worked as an industrial engineer for Parsons Construction and SIP in the oil refinery business. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Willie Mae Garrett Brannon, of North Georgia; a brother, Harold Brannon; and a sister, Louise Roberson. Survivors include a son, Fred Brannon, Chattanooga; a daughter, Gloria Corn, Winston-Salem, N.C.; two grandchildren, Adam Brannon, Chattanooga, and Amy Woolard, Spring Hill, Tenn.; one great-grandson, Andrew Brannon, of Chattanooga; nephews, nieces and friends and neighbors in Texas. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at Chattanooga National Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Zach Wyatt. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Diabetes Association.
