James Chamlee

James A. Chamlee, 92 of East Ridge, passed away Nov. 30, 2013, at the VA Hospice in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Jim was born in Sweetwater, Tenn., March 30, 1921 the son of Richard and Maggie Chamlee. His father died three months prior to his birth and his mother when he was just a child. Following the death of his mother, he was raised by a beloved aunt and uncle, John and Annie Lynn Carter, along with their daughters, Betty Ruth and Joan. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Agnes Wright, Myrtle Morgan, and Grace Hood as well as brothers, William and Richard Chamlee. He is also preceded by John and Annie Lynn Carter, Betty Ruth Woody, Joan Simmons and other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Survivors include nieces, nephews, cousins, valued friends, and a grateful nation. Jim was a decorated World War II veteran serving in the Army from 1940-1945. He participated in numerous campaigns including those in Algeria, Sicily, Northern France, and Normandy. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in the East chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 S. Moore Road with Dr. John W. Burkett officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.chattanoogaeastchapel.com.
