Joseph Carson

Joseph Russell Carson, 71, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at his home. Mr. Carson was born in Newburgh, N.Y., and had lived in Hixson for the past 28 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Hixson First Baptist Church and sang in the choir. Mr. Carson was a scout leader and was a volunteer firefighter for 25 years. He was a son of the late Harriet and Russell Carson and was also preceded in death by a sister, Marion Carson. Suvivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Durling Carson; five sons, Eugene Carson, Peter Carson, Joe Carson, Jr., William Carson and Vincent Carson; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Terry Shannon officiating. Inurnment will be in National Cemetery at a later date with military honors.
