Ruby Trewhitt

Ruby Lee Trewhitt, 90, of East Ridge, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at her residence. She was born on July 21, 1923, to the late Rev. Samuel Melton and Ella Melton in Cleveland, Tenn., where she was a 1941 graduate of Bradley Central High School. She had lived most of her life in East Ridge having worked many years at Ernest Holmes Co. as a credit union secretary and she was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church. Her passions in life were God, family and cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Henry Trewhitt; son, Thomas Lamar Trewhitt; brother, George Melton; and sister, Willa Mae Fox. Survivors include her daughter, Sheila Trewhitt Campbell (Michael); daughter-in-law, Nancy Trewhitt; grandchildren, Jason (Stephanie) Trewhitt and Jamey (Lynn) Trewhitt; great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Kassi, and Jessica Trewhitt; several nieces and nephews; and her faithful companions, Sam and Ben (the Chihuahuas). The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Chattanooga for their love and care during this time. Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the South Crest Chapel with Pastor Joe Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
