Sibyl Woebbeking

Sibyl Woebbeking, 81, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013.She was born in Fort Payne, Ala., the oldest of seven children to Martha Barkley Dupree and Alfred L. Dupree, Rainsville, Ala.She was employed with the telephone company in Fort Payne, Ala., and Houston, Texas, Brock Candy Co., and 36 years with Chattanooga Tufters Mrs. Woebbeking was the first female president of the World Trade Council and Chattanooga Transportation Clubs and was a member of Bayside Baptist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Connors; daughter, Deborah Lynne Woebbeking; parents, Martha and Alfred Dupree; and brother, Alfred Dupree.Survivors include a son, Dennis Michael Woebbeking; daughter, Susan Renee Merriman; son-in-law, David Lee Merriman; grandchildren, David (Tiffany) Merriman Jr., Sean Merriman, Tiffany (Jeremy) Mauldin, Ryan (Amanda) Merriman; one great-granddaughter, Aria Merriman; two sisters, Virginia Laney and Kay Stearns; three brothers, Charles (Katherine) Dupree, Ronald (Nila) Dupree, Donald (Mary Lou) Dupree; and sister-in-law, Laura (Willie) Wade; and several nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace with the Rev. Grady Cooper officiating.
