Edith Padgett

Edith M. King Padgett, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. She was 92 years old. She was born Nov. 13, 1920, She was the oldest child in a family of five, which limited her opportunity for an education but she was a self taught scholar who loved to read and manage the family financial issues. Edith worked in many retail jobs to help support her family. She was a master seamstress and the family will always remember the Christmases she made quilts for everyone. Edith always enjoyed traveling especially on the ocean. She loved to go to church at the Church Of God and treasured her grandchildren. Over the last few years of her life, her mobility became very limited and she was restricted to Manor House Assistive Living where she found a very caring second family in the staff, for which the family is eternally grateful. Edith's concern for others never failed to out weight the concern for herself. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her. Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Roy T. Padgett; parents, Oscar and Lillie King; brother, Golman King and a grandson, Norman Alan Nagel. She is survived by her five children, Bill (Sandy) Padgett of Ohio, Peggy Nagel of Florida, Diana (Mike) Thacker of Harrison, Wanda (Larry) Hackler of New Jersey and John R. Padgett of Hixson; sisters, Thelma Fine, Jean (Pat) Pettie and Ruth Goodman (J.C.) Hodges. Edith was blessed with sixteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, and 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, at the North Chapel. Services for Edith will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at North Chapel.
