Nathan York

ROSSVILLE, Ga. Nathan L. York, 39, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, in a local hospital.Nathan was a 1991 graduate of Ridgeland High School, received his B.A. degree from Mercer University, his masters from Ole Miss and was in the process of receiving his doctorate degree. He was a French Professor at Rice University and taught English in Lyon, France for several years. Nathan was inspired to teach French from his teacher, Ms. Hull. He attended the Fort Oglethorpe Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses and had a passion for God, writing poetry, learning and teaching.He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy York; grandmother, Janie Louise Brown; and infant twin sisters, Jennie Lynn and Sue Ann York.Survivors include his mother, Rebecca York of Rossville; half-brothers, Paul and Mark York; paternal grandparents, Harley and Corrinne York; aunts and uncles, Linda, Tommy and Wanda York, Carl and Billie Foster, Kathryn and Kenneth Christopher, Teresa Phillips, Juanita Tracy, Jean and Jr. Osborne, Kenneth and Janice Shrader, Alford and Gean Phillips, Jessie and Cynthia Phillips; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the South Crest Chapel with Pastors Terry Phillips and Raymond Blevins officiating.Burial will follow in Paynes Gap Cemetery, Flat Rock, Ala.To share expressions of sympathy, visit lane-southcrestchapel.com.The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. Friday until the service hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
