Larry Reed

FLINTSTONELarry Bates Reed, 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013.He had lived in the North Georgia area for most of his life and attended Solid Rock Baptist Church. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and was a member of the Iron Workers Union Local #704 for more than 50 years. He had also devoted a lot of his own time playing the role of Santa Claus for more than 12 years for many local schools and businesses within the North Georgia area and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all that knew him.He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas and Elizabeth Kay Reed; his wife, Virginia Ann Drake Reed and several siblings.Survivors include his two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Allen and (Sandra) Reed and James Thomas and (Vicki) Reed; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and (John) McDaniel, all of Flintstone, Ga.; four grandchildren, Angela Garren, Sean McDaniel, Jennifer Reed and Brittney Reed; great-grandson, John William "Jay" Bell; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Brother Jeff Brown and Brother John Moorehouse officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery. The family will begin receiving friends after 5 p.m. today, all day Wednesday and prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.Arrangements by W.
