James Rooks

James Y. "Jay" Rooks, 85, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 in a local hospital. He was of the Baptist faith and was a long distance truck driver for 44 years, having driven for Greyhound Van Lines, Smyth Greyhound Van Lines, American Red Ball, Bekins Van Lines and most recently at Avis car rental.He was preceded in death by his first wife Catherine F. Rook; his parents J.D. and Ollie M. Rooks; infant son, Kendall L. Rooks; infant daughter Kimberly S. Rooks; and one brother Albert E. Rooks.Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Nellie Knight Rooks of Chattanooga; one son Ron (Sue) Rooks, of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; daughters Cathy (Larry) Johnston, of Mcdonald Tenn., Cindy (Mark) Gossett, of Chattanooga; Grandchildren Ronnie (Ashley) Rooks, of Naples Fla., Kim Johnston-Huskin, of Cleveland Tenn., Michael (Savannah) Johnston, of Mcdonald Tenn., Eric (Danielle) Rooks, of Jackson Tenn., and Katie Masters, of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Madison, Emme, Palmer, David and Emmett; two sisters Evelyn Herod, of Chattanooga and Betty R. Henegar, of Ooltewah. many nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Duane B. Mills of the First Baptist Church of LaFollette TN and Rev. Randy Bell Pastor of Lupton Drive Baptist Church Officiating. Burial will follow in the Chattanooga Memorial Park with David Bass, Bob Gann, Jim Mills, Mike Duncan, Paul Mills, Ed Knight and Mark Knight Serving as Pallbearers.The family will receive friends today from 2-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
