William G. ("Bill") Braswell, 81, of Hixson, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013. He was the son of the late Troy and Kathryne Braswell. Bill was a devoted husband and father. He left as a legacy to his family that a persons worth is measured, not by what he has, but by whom he is, to whom he belongs, and by his integrity, good character, and deep commitment to God, family, and country.Bill was a veteran, serving as Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force and the United States Marines. He was retired from DuPont and loved to golf, bowl, and watch the Tennessee Vols. He was a member of Clear Creek church of Christ.He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Dean Braswell.He is survived by daughter, Terri Braswell Gilbert (Tim), of Ooltewah; son William Bradley Braswell, Sr. (Melissa), of Ooltewah; five grandchildren, Bailey and Delaney Gilbert and Bradley, Blake and Briggs Braswell; two brothers, Charles Braswell of Knoxville, Tennessee and James Braswell, of Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Marilyn Hestle, of Franklin, Tenn., and Frances McNeil, of Brentwood, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the North Chapel.Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Minister Joey Davis officiating. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens Cemetery with nephews Danny Braswell and Tim Hestle and friends 1SG. Lee Carter, Todd Faulk, Billy Hester, and Lamar Howard serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Berry, J.C.
