Roderic Johnson

Roderic Lee Johnson (Rod), 40, of Hixson, Tenn., was called home on Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Hospice Care Center in East Brainerd. Rod was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and was a loving, kind and compassionate husband, father, son and brother. Rod loved his country and proudly served in the United States Army from 1994 through 2002. He was born in Burlington, N.C., and attended high school in Cullman, Ala., where he was a star defensive end on the field and first baseman on the diamond. Rod graduated from Lake Michigan College and worked with the TSA, Whirlpool Corporation, ReDoubt Soccer Club and most recently EPB. Rod was known for his quick wit and humor along with his love of the North Carolina Tar Heels.He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Beth Johnson; daughter Savannah Johnson; mother Frances Mann; father and step-mother Bobby and Theresa Johnson; and brother Brandon Johnson; along with step brothers, step sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephews.The family would like to extend a special thanks to the many individuals at Hospice of Chattanooga; specifically Amy Lathum, Susan Latta, Dr. Galina Rader, Dr. Kathleen Locker, Jim Shull, and the entire staff of the HCC. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 2, from 4-7 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace. A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, at St. Jude Catholic Church with Pastor Charles Burton officiating.
