Verlon Culver

ROSSVILLE Verlon "V.O." Culver, 91, passed away on Saturday June 29, 2013. He was born in Henagar, Ala., to the late Charlie A. Culver and Josie Mae Hicks, but had lived in the North Georgia area for most of his life. He retired from Combustion Engineering Company after more than 30 years of service and was a local plumber that served many in Rossville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WWII from 1940 to 1946 as a Fireman First Class and was a member of the American Legion #39 in Henagar, AL for 57 years. He was a loyal Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed rabbit and bird hunting. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church of Rossville, GA and was also preceded in death by his wife, Lizzie "Liz" Smith Culver; infant son, Chris Lamar Culver; step-mother, Alma Cheatwood Culver Berry; brothers: Brady Culver, Duell Culver, Jim Cheatwood, Monroe Cheatwood; sisters, Ozella Shankles, Evelyn Hughes, Virginia Weathers, Lois Mays and Bobbie Jean Stoker.Survivors include; two daughters, Yvonne and (Gary) Strange, of Fort Oglethorpe and Debi Wilson, of Ringgold; son Darryl Culver, of Rossville; brother Charlie D. Cheatwood, of Henagar, Ala.; two sisters, Willodean Langford and Lindel Perkins, of Rossville; seven grandchildren, Christi Bailey, Kelly Dunn, Dana Jenkins, Chase and Colt Wilson, Haley and Dylan Culver; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. EST, Tuesday, July 2, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with. Bro. Joel Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today and prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at 1:15 p.m. EST in the New Home Cemetery, Henagar, AL.
