Ruby Dobson

DUNLAP Ruby Lee Henson Dobson, 98, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 11, 2013, joining her many family members. She had lived a long, fulfilling life. Born Dec. 15, 1914, Ruby was one of nine children of James A. Henson and wife, Lula Smith Henson. Ruby lived her entire life in Dunlap. She loved the Sequatchie Valley. After graduating from high school, she married Ed Dobson. They were married for only a few years when Ed was tragically killed during WW II. She never had any children of her own, but had plenty of nieces and nephews to keep her busy. Ruby worked for Willwear Hosiery Mill, retiring after many years of service. However, retirement did not slow her down. She was always working around the house, either inside or outside in the yard and garden. Passersby on East Valley Road could always expect to see her outside in her long-sleeved flannel shirt and wide-brimmed straw hat. She loved animals as was evidenced by her miniature chihauhau, Tiny. Ruby was well known in the community and was loved by everyone she met. She was of the Baptist faith.Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Dobson; parents, James A. and Lula Henson; sisters, Una Gerrard, Leola Ewton, Alma Henson, and Wilma Bramble; brother, Riley Henson; and several nieces and nephews.Survivors include her sister, Louise Armstrong, of Dunlap; four nieces and three nephews; 20 great-nieces and nephews; and over 40 great-great-nieces and nephews.
