Betty Rogers

WHITWELL Betty Ruth Sweeton Rogers passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer.Betty was born Nov 17, 1934 in Palmer, to Albert and Alice Mae Sanders Sweeton, who preceded her in death.Betty graduated from Grundy County High School in 1953 and was married to James Tate Rogers of Whitwell in 1957. She was a devoted member of South Whitwell Baptist Church and was the Sunday School teacher for her class. She worked several jobs and retired as a cafeteria cook at Whitwell High School. Betty had a very out-going personality who loved her family and friends, loved cooking, gardening and helping anyone in need.Also preceding her in death were two infant sisters, Myrtle Mae and Adeline; two brothers, Nelson and Delbert; sister, Rosa Nell Scissom; three sisters-in-law, Virginia, Ruth and Ella Mae; two brothers-in-law, Richard Smith and Tom Scissom.Survivors include husband of 56 years, James; children, Jim (Tonya), Ron (Karen), Barry (Paige) and Melinda (Alan); seven grandchildren, Chris, Darin (Holly), Chelsea (Michael), Caitlin, Ciera, Seth, Sloane; two great-grandchildren, Carlee Reese Rogers and Ella Grace Hixson; two stepgrandchildren, Franklin and Tyler Curtis; brothers, Edd, Tracy City ; Alton, Mt. Juliet; Wayne (Bobbie), Whitwell and Dayne (Nancy), Cartwright; sister, Kathleen Smith, Whitwell; sister-in-law, Reggie Sweeton, Palmer; ex-daughter-in-law, Donna Pickett, Whitwell.The family would like to thank all of the friends and family for prayers and support, and would also like to thank Hospice Facility at Standifer Place in Chattanooga.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home chapel with Rev DarrellWinters officiating.Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com.Arrangements by Reed Funeral Home, 11675 Highway 28, Whitwell.Visitation 9 a.m. until service time today.
