Joe Wilson

Joe Woodburn Wilson, 78, resident of Chattanooga, and formally of Knoxville, departed this world to be with his Heavenly Father at 9:45 p.m. Friday, June, 14, 2013 in a Chattanooga healthcare facility. He was a member of Arlington Baptist Church since childhood and never moved his affiliation. Born on Oct. 28, 1934 the son of late Smeed Wilson and Mary Ethel Guinn Wilson. Preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Woodburn and Nina Wilson; maternal grandparents, Joseph Carl and Mary Ethel Edmonds Guinn; brother, James Smeed Wilson, Jr.He graduated from Knoxville Central High School in 1953, and from the University of Tennessee in 1958. After graduation from U.T., he spent a period of time in the Naval Reserves. There after he worked for Tidewater Industrial Machine Company; before forming TenCarVa Machinery Company along with two friends in Chattanooga and retired from there. He was an avid sports fan of football and baseball, especially the U.T. sports programs. Above all his passion was playing golf, which he had played since his teenage years and continued until he became ill. He also had a love of music. He was an active member of Chattanooga Elks Lodge 91 where he made many loyal, caring friends and golf buddies over the years, as well as many other loyal friends from employees to neighbors. These friends visited him on a daily basis while he was in the healthcare facility. He is survived by first cousin, Mary Lou Guinn Finley and husband, Michael Finley, of Georgetown, Tenn.; step-son, Danny Crosland, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three step-grandchildren, Eric, Joshua, and Hannah Crosland, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; four second cousins, Kelly Finley, of Louisville, Tenn., Kevin Finley, of Niota, Tenn., Scott (Dianna) Finley, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Sean Finley, of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; several third cousins; special friends Rodger and Terry Parsons, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Matt Brownfield, of Chattanooga, Tenn. There will be no formal visitation time as Joe requested a graveside service, which will be conducted at Lynnhurst Cemetery, 2300 Adair Dr, Knoxville, TN 37918, on Tuesday, June, 18, at 3 p.m.In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to The Hospice of Chattanooga Foundation (P.O.
