Martha George

Martha P. George, 91, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, passed away from her home and went to be with her Lord. On Monday, June 17, 2013, a sunbeam vanished from this world.There is no doubt the pathways of heaven will be brighter because of her. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Martha will remember her gentle kindness, and loyal devotion to her family and friends. On June 25, 1943 she was united in marriage to Paul Eugene George. This year they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage.She was a Red Cross Gray Lady, substitute teacher in both Jr. High and High school in Chattanooga, East Ridge and Hamilton County. She loved tatting, counted cross stitching, painting, ceramics, and other crafts. She loved to play board games and work puzzles. She was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years to children.She was preceded in death by her parents, N. J. and Bertha Pardue. Survivors include her husband, Paul Eugene George. Her daughter, Marilyn (Larry) Smith, of Dayton, Tenn.; and her son, Paul (Vivian) George II, of Powell, Ohio, and one sister, Lea (William) Montgomery, of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Michael (Mindy) Smith, Jeanette (Staurt) Tysinger and Eric George; and four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Hallie, and Koelar Smith and Lucas Tysinger; as well as two loved nephews and one loved niece; two special friends, Ruby and Marie Denham and many church and neighborhood families and friends.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and noon to 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013, at the funeral home with Dr. Rev. Robert I.
