Andrew Bullard

Dr. Rev. Jr.Dr. Rev. Andrew Jackson Bullard Jr., 79, went to be with the Lord Friday, June 21, 2013, after a lengthy illness. He was born Nov. 3, 1933. Rev. Bullard was Pastor Emeritus of New Enon Baptist Church, former pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of LaFayette, Ga., and member of Rock Island Baptist Church where he was baptized and called to preach the Gospel of Christ. He attended Howard High School, served in the United States Army, studied at the American Baptist Theological Seminary, and was awarded an honorary doctorate from Morehouse Interdenominational Theological Center in 1999. During his career he was chef at the Texan Restaurant, following in the footsteps of his father, chef for many years at the historic Home Plate Cafeteria on Cherry St. He met many lifelong friends and spiritual comrades while working at Mueller Co. and as a building inspector for the city of Chattanooga. He was a member of the Clergy Koinonia.For years he wrote a spiritual column for the Chattanooga News Chronicle and delivered a weekly sermon through the churchs radio ministry. He was honored for his religious and civic accomplishments in 2009 with a Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the African American Achievers Hall of Fame in 2011.Pastor Bullard was preceded in death by his parents, Mamie Lee and Andrew J. Bullard Sr.; sister, Margaret Bullard Morris; son, Anthony Jerome Bullard; and daughter, Mamie Maria Bullard.He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 58 years, Peggie Sadler Bullard; his sister, Betty Jean Knox (Billy, deceased); and children, Edna Varner, Ernest (Jacqueline) Varner, Justino (Dailah) Varner, Joaquin (Linda) Black, Yolander Palms, Rev. Andrew J. (Minister Angela) Bullard III, and Rev. Alexander J. (Marcella Kay) Bullard, Sr. He leaves also, many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, in-laws, extended family, loving care givers, neighbors and friends from 9th Street, Alton Park, and Camden Street, and a host of Ministers who either mentored him or were mentored by him.Rev. Bullard will continue to be known and quoted throughout the community for his simple yet profound testimony about his Christian journey: "Aint God All Right!"Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church, 1734 E. Third Street with the Rev. Rheubin Taylor officiating.Interment in Highland Memorial Gardens.The body will lie in state from noon4:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 56 p.m. at New Enon Baptist Church, 2302 Wilcox Blvd. and a Memorial Service will follow at 6 p.m.Arrangements by John P.
