Herbert Caldwell

COALMONT Mr. Herbert E. "Herbie" Caldwell, 83, of the Cumberland Heights Community and Palmer native passed away peacefully at his home Thursday June 27, 2013. Herbie was a coalminer and retired from Atlas Chemical in Chattanooga. He began playing baseball at the age of 15 and was the pitcher for the Palmer men's team being an avid baseball fan, hunter and fisherman his whole life. He was a US Army veteran and a Christian attending the Laager Independent Methodist Church. Herbie was born in Flat Branch to Calvin B. and Ida Mae Nunley Caldwell who preceded him in death along with his son, Jeffery Dennis Caldwell; sisters, Beatrice Pickett, Laura Ruehling and Edna Taylor; brothers, Chester, Roy, Robert "Poss" and Howard Caldwell. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Bonnie Cook Caldwell; daughters, Cynthia (Johnny) Green and Patty (Ricky) Brown; sister, Hazel Stotts; grandchildren, John (Misty) Green, Traci (Ronald) Dickerson, Dennis and Terry (Nichelle) Caldwell, Tyler and Dylan Brown; great grandchildren, Nick Green, McKenzie and Kameryn Dickerson, Summer, Jeff and Jeremiah Caldwell; a host of nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday June 30, in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Jessie Lockhart and Jacob Anderson officiating with burial to follow in the White Cemetery.
