Douglas Hayes

Douglas F. Hayes died peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 27, 2013, with his devoted wife at his side. He was 83 years old.Doug was the oldest of four children and was preceded in death by his parents and two of his siblings. He is survived by his wife Geraldine, his faithful companion of 63 years; his son Steven (Debbie) Hayes; daughter Terry (Jay) Floyd; sister Gloria Jean (Ed) Jenkins; grandsons Brian (Jean) Hayes, Ben (Deanna) Hayes, David Floyd; granddaughter Jessica (Andy) Jensen; and four great-grandchildren.Following his retirement from DuPont Doug enjoyed traveling, bird watching, hiking, biking, camping, gardening, woodworking and reading. Doug had a passion for helping others. He invested his time in the service of the Lord by volunteering regularly with Campers on Mission, Disaster Relief, and the Community Kitchen. He was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church and the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class.The family will receive friends at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home today, from 2-6 p.m. and for one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 1 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bethel Bible Village or the Tennessee Baptist Children's Home.
