Edward James

Edward Searcy James, 82, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013.He was born July 6th, 1930 to the late Juliette and Willie Lee James. He was raised by his beloved grandparents, William Love and Mary Gentry James. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Pack Carter.He was a 1949 graduate of Central High School. Ed retired from DuPont with 30 years of service. He was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church.An avid sportsman he played softball for the DuPont Nylons in the Dixie Major Fast Pitch league and also was active as a coach in the East Ridge girls softball league. He was proud to be a Marine and served in combat during the Korean War.He is survived by his beloved family; his wife of 61 years, Nancy Cope James; his son, William Edward James; daughter, Lois James North; and his granddaughters, Jordan Elizabeth North and Natalie Denise North; special lifelong friend, Jim Jenkins. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Steve McCary officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery.The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Mark E. Heinsohn for his many years of care.
