William Clingan

William "Bill" Keith Clingan, 74, of Hixson, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2013.A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, as a boy in Highland Park, as a young adult in East Ridge, and for the past 45 years in Hixson. Bill was a 1956 graduate of Central High School and attended Tennessee Tech.He was the son of the late William Keith "Jack" and Eva Johnson Clingan. Brother to Wanda Clingan Prater and the late Alice Clingan Williams.He was a mechanical engineer and worked for Olan Mills and Container Corporation of America. He embraced his entrepreneurial spirit by owning many small businesses through the years, and spent his final years completing hundreds of yacht appraisals all across the Southeast.He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alice Williams.He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Aundria Chapman Clingan; sons, William "Keith" (Gail) Clingan, of Hixson, Barry (Amy) Clingan, of Trophy Club, Texas, Kevin (Cynthia) Clingan, of Franklin, Tenn.; daughter, Karla Clingan Mathis (Dan), of Hixson. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Katie Clingan, of Washington, D.C. Jacob Clingan, of Nashville, Courtney Clingan, of Chattanooga. Jordan, Jessie Kate and Joy Clingan, of Trophy Club, Texas, Catherine, William "Patrick" and Caroline Clingan, of Franklin, Tenn., and Chapman Mathis, of Hixson.Bill was a longtime member of Ridgedale Baptist Church, and was active at Central Baptist Church Abbas House for many years.He became active in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary attaining the rank of Commandant during the late 1980s.The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 a.m. today, May 10.A celebration of life service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, May 10, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
