Sarah Poindexter

Sarah Elizabeth Green Poindexter passed on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, in Ypsilanti, Mich. She was born May 21, 1935 in Richland, Ga., to the union of Willie B. and Erma Green. Sarah was educated in the Chattanooga Public Schools. She was a surgical technician and childcare worker when living in Chattanooga. She worked in the Foster Grandparents program which she loved up until her death. She was known by the students and teachers as Grandma Sarah. She loved working with children, and there wasnt any child that she didn't try to help. Sarah accepted Christ at a young age where she attended Alleyne Memorial AME Zion Church in Chattanooga. While living in Ypsilanti, she regulary attended Bible study, and always spoke about the goodness of God. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dr. Georgia Williams-Scaife. Sarah leaves to cherish her memory her children, Cassandra "San" Turner, Johnny "Butch" Guice, Patricia "Pat" Smauldon and Roderick "Roddy" Guice; her brothers, Johnny Green and Anthony Edmondson; her sister, Sheila Sims; her five grandchildren, Sherod, Patrick, Victoria, Jessica and Lindsey; five great-grandchildren, her nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
