Mary Taylor

Mary Evelyn Taylor, 83, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, in a local hospital. She retired from the Chattanooga City School System, having served as a teacher's aide. She was co-owner of Taylor Funeral Home. She was a faithful member of the Avondale Church of Christ where she taught children's classes in Sunday School, Wednesday Night Bible Class and Vacation Bible School. After becoming ill, she attended faithfully the E. Third Street Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl L. Taylor, Sr. Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy Annette Taylor; sons, Carl L. (Jackie) Taylor, Jr., John R. (Anita) Taylor, Sr. all of Chattanooga, and Marshall N. Taylor, of Virginia Beach, Va.; 11 grandchildren, Adowa Taylor, Marcus Smith, Alphonso Smith, Carl Taylor, III, John Taylor, Jr., Janay Taylor, Dejurnetta "Dee Dee" Ragland, Andrew Taylor, Taylor Battle, Mya Taylor, and Marshall Taylor, Jr.; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Jessie (Mary) Conner, of Tacoma, Wash.; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Jackson, of Cleveland, Oh., and Betty Mosley, of Jackson, Tenn.; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. The body will lie-in-state today after 12:30 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. A Celebration in Songs will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel with the funeral to follow at 11 a.m. with Brother John R. Taylor, Sr. as the eulogist. Burial: Highland Memorial Gardens.
